IGN Article :L.A. Noire is based in 1940s Los Angeles. Unlike Rockstar’s other open-world games, this city isn’t a work of fiction. That’s right, L.A. actually existed in 1947. But the city isn’t a perfect recreation. The scale has been adjusted to fit the needs of the game’s design and some areas have been altered to suit developer Team Bondi’s artistic vision.

There are a number of historic locations in L.A. Noire. Places you’ll go for cases or simply drive by as you’re cruising the street, looking for crime. Team Bondi’s eye for detail has capture the mood and the look of post-war Los Angeles.

Hollywoodland SignOriginally a sign promoting the “Hollywoodland” development project, the last four letters were removed in 1949, two years after the events of L.A. Noire.

The Tar PitsFun fact: “Brea” means “tar” in Spanish. So the La Brea Tar Pits are actually “The Tar Tar Pits.” In L.A. Noire, they are relocated and renamed the Westlake Tar Pits. Sinking mammoths still included.
